Usually completed within an hour or two.

Morning Study:
Lights vs. Shadows
Only four colours were used – colour scheme is known as the Zorn Palette. This is also the only time (while using the Zorn Palette) I use the colour black in any of my paintings.

During my homeless period on Vancouver Island, I came across this decommissioned train crossing, and found it odd there was a stop sign.

I came across this garbage can that was converted into a library for the local vacationers. Take a book, leave a book.
Study Notes:
It’s bit of a long process just to create this 8″ x 10″ canvas panel. I seal the birch plywood to help prevent moisture being sucked into the wood over time. I then use an archival glue to apply the canvas to the wood. Once it’s dry, I then add 3 coats of an acrylic gesso. The gesso acts as a barrier between the canvas and oil paints. Any contact would cause the canvas to rot over time.
I had a couple different types of blue oil paint that I rarely use and were just sitting in my drawer. They don’t work with my style, so I decided to have a little fun with them this morning and this is the result …
