The final digital painting with a story to go with it.

One penguin actually stood still long enough to model…. However, the other two…. sigh …. one stood behind the model and kept making silly faces, while the third painted both faces together and then added a moustache …… we now call him “Penguincasso”
Onto the stories…. enjoy!

…and then Steve left the automatic soccer ball launcher turned on…
Well, this was a surprise. Bob the bungee jumping penguin showed up and jumped out of the hot air balloon.
Ping Pong Ball or Penguin Egg?
Our little snowman Charlie was so excited to show his penguins a brand new game he came across, that when he tossed up the ping pong ball and was about to strike it…. the penguins fainted.
The penguins thought it was a penguin egg.

Delivering Christmas Ornaments
As Charlie was putting up the lights, the penguins wrapped the garland (Charlie’s Sash) around the tree. They stopped to admire their work.
Did you know?
I wanted to share a little of my culture with you through Our Little Snowman Charlie and his Penguins. Nothing more and nothing less…. just sharing…
Charlie is wearing the traditional Metis Sash, with the Red River Carts in the Background, along with the Metis Flag. These are only a few of the items from Metis life ….
The Sash – Traditionally, it was about practicality for everyday use during the Fur Trade & Voyageurs times. It not only kept your pants up, you could hold items in it that were relevant to the times. Bundling up clothes, food, hunting supplies, towel, and the fringes could be used as a sewing kit. Tie boats together …horses… it could be used as rope to pull… etc…
Today’s Sash is used in ceremonies and showing your pride from where your people came from.
Although I have never used my sash in the traditional way, it’s practicality while out camping, kayaking and exploring, would come in handy.

How it began...
The Story behind Charlie & and his Penguins
“Our Little Snowman & his Penguins” was the original title, which lasted for approximately a year. Then he became known as “Charlie”.
Charlie & his Penguins were a result of a back injury. The injury & pain prevented JD from sitting or standing at his easel in order to oil paint. He took to his iPad and created a snow globe after having watched a Youtube tutorial.
But, this wasn’t enough for JD, he didn’t want to create what others were doing. He wanted full control on what he created.
On Nov 19 2021 – Charlie came to life with his first little toboggan ride.
“Snowballs for Sale” Nov 22, 2021
This was when Charlie starting wearing a pot for hat.
This idea came from a couple memories of JD’s childhood.
Pot Hat Kids have a tendency to gravitate to the kitchen cupboards, where they pull out the pots and pans to play with.
Snowballs for sale As a kid, my brother and I would set up a kool-aid stand in front of our house. There was a time when we painted rocks and would sell them too. Our grandmother was our biggest customer. I look back and I’m pretty sure I could have sold her a few snowballs as well.
Scarf My mom would always wrap the scarf around my face and head several times. She didn’t want me to freeze or get sick. Except, we lived right across the street from our school. It took us longer to get wrapped up than it did to walk across the street.
The story & adventures of Charlie & his Penguins evolved from there …
