JD Hawk - Red River Métis Artist

 Born and raised in Winnipeg MB, JD  specializes in oil paintings.
His artwork reflects his love of the outdoors, people and
connection to his Métis heritage.

He has been commissioned nationally and internationally, with collectors worldwide. Artworks with Parks
Canada, Canada Games 2022, Festival du Voyageur, The Royal Canadian Mint, Manitoba Métis Federation, Office of the Commissioner of Indigenous Languages, and The Canadian Museum of History.

Accomplishments:

Museums 

  • Canadian Museum of History, Ottawa ONT. – acquired Metis Portrait “Charolette Nolin”, oil painting, for their permanent collection.
  • Sam Waller Museum, The Pas MB. – acquired two oil paintings depicting children from the 1920’s, for their permanent collection.
  • Seven Oaks House Museum, Wpg MB – 2024 Summer Season. Displaying 6 original oil paintings, including JD Hawk’s personal Metis beaded vest and sash. 

Commissions

  • Office of the Commissioner of Indigenous Languages – One of Kind Oil Painting to be revealed in early – mid 2025
  • Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) – official artist to capture 25 oil paintings of the historical Metis Treaty Consultations.
  • Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) – design and paint a wall mural at ‘Fre Maachi’.
  • Local, national, and international commissions as per clients’ specifications.
  • Royal Canadian Mint – collaboration – one of three artists to design and create the keepsake coin for Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Royal Canadian Mint – collaboration – one of three artists to design and create the Indigenous Veteran’s Coin which is to be released -TBA.
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada – design a digital art piece for the Ceremonial Lodge in Ottawa.
